Rising Above

Daren and Rodger share about the ministry of Rising Above. Rising Above is a ministry for Native American, First Nations, aboriginal people of Alaska. There are Native people who have struggled for years with alcohol and ohter addictions. The concept of Rising Above is that the root issues behind the addiction must be addressed before a person can be set free from the addiction. This concept is applicable to anyone who has an addiction, not just native people.
Victory Over Alcohol, Drugs, Mental Illness, Immoral Behavior
Gale T.
At a very early age Gale experienced horrific trauma that most likely triggered a mental illness (schizophrenia and more). This ultimately lead to alcohol and drug use. Which ultimately leads to all kinds of other immoral behavior. Over seven years ago Gale was set free from mental illness and all of these addictions through accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior
Rising Above Conference
June 13-16, 2012
Tacoma, WA
www.raisingabove.ca
If you are Native American, First Nations, aboriginal people of Alaska, or know someone that is, this conference is going to be very worthwhile to you. Especially if you or someone you know has struggled with alcoholism or other issues. We strongly encourage you to attend this conference. It truly will be life changing. The conference will be addressing the emotional scars from past wounds that are very specific for many North American aboriginal people groups. These emotional scars are the reason why many Native people abuse alcohol and drugs. This conference will be a safe place for individuals to share the stories and to get emotional healing.
Dale
Sexual Addiction
Dale will be sharing his struggle and victory over sexual addiction. Dale's addiction started early in age after he found a stash of pornography magazines that his older brother had hid in a room. At one point in his life Dale got arrested by Seattle police in a prostitution sting. This brought destruction to Dale's marriage. Ultimately Dale's wife had an affair and they got divorced. A few years later Dale got married again. But sad to say he got busted again in another sting operation. That was a wake up call for Dale. He is now very involved with Celebrate Recovery and is truly serving the Lord now.

Recovery Ministry
All types of ministries have challenges. Because ministry involves people there will be challenges. Like one pastor said, "Ministry would be easy if you got rid of the people". The main challenge in recovery ministry compared to other ministries is that with other ministries there normally is some 'normal' or healthier people. In regards to recovery ministry normally all the people you are working with have issues, most have major issues. They are normally the most dysfunctional people. The most stubborn. The most unteachable. The most untrustworthy. The most deceptive. The most prideful. The most rebellious. The most undependable. They are blatantly flawed people. Now the good news is that when they truly give their life over to God they can become the most transformed people. But this is a process. (More)

Recovery Journey
Melanie Newman
Melanie was drinking alcohol at 8 years old. By 12 she was a full blown addict to alcohol, marijuana, heroin, crack, cocaine, meth. Needless to say she went down a road of immorality and destruction. But ultimately she went to a church service and had a powerful encounter with God. She had a spiritual awakening and became a born again Christian. Even though Melanie experienced deliverance at a church service she went
out and tried drugs one more time. She could not get high. She realized
she had made a big mistake and cried out for God's help to stay clean.
Since that time she has been drug free. In May Melanie will have two
years of sobriety.
